Engineering recognizes its own

The recipients of this year’s Engineering Faculty and Staff Awards were announced October 24 by Pearl Sullivan, dean of engineering.

The Faculty’s Teaching Excellence Award recognizes outstanding teaching and commitment to the enrichment of Waterloo Engineering education. This year's recipients are Kyle Daun of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, David Nairn of electrical and computer engineering, and Luis Ricardez-Sandoval of chemical engineering.

The Outstanding Staff Performance Award administrative category winner is Kristen Deckert, recognized for her exceptional contributions as the undergraduate administrative coordinator for systems design engineering. Jim Baleshta is the award recipient in the technical staff category for his accomplishments as a design engineer for mechanical and mechatronics engineering.

Research honours

The En-hui Yang Engineering Research Innovation Award recognizes an outstanding researcher within Waterloo Engineering. This year's honoree is Safieddin Safavi-Naeini of electrical and computer engineering.

The Engineering Research Excellence Award honours outstanding research accomplishment, innovative ideas and dedication to the Faculty’s research. This year’s award recipients are Bo Cui of electrical and computer engineering in the assistant professor category, Eihab Abdel-Rahman of systems design engineering in the associate professor category, and Magdy Salama of electrical and computer engineering in the professor category.

The awards will be officially presented at the Engineering Faculty and Staff Awards Dinner to be held on January 15, 2015.
