Edward Cyr not only competes on two different varsity teams, he also achieves excellence in the classroom. Cyr, a mechanical engineering master's student, was part of the University of Waterloo's 2013 men's curling national championship team and competed on the Warrior's swimming team while maintaining an overall average of 95.5 per cent.
He was one of four top Warrior athletes who received special awards and recognition as Fairfax Financial Academic All-Canadians, part of a new program with the Canadian insurance, reinsurance and investment management company.
A total of 45 Waterloo Engineering students were recognized at the annual reception held September 30 by University President Feridun Hamdullahpur to celebrate the university's outstanding student-athletes who have achieved an average of 80 per cent or higher while competing in a varsity sport. Besides Cyr, the other engineering student/athletes to achieve over 90 per cent in the classroom were Jeffery Muirhead, Adam Neale, Tyler Haladuick, Charly Allan, Dylan Dowling, Tim Ritshcer and Daniel Baggio.
