Engineering students unveil capstone innovations

Wednesday, March 13, 2024

Future unicorns and community-changing innovations could be amongst the final-year engineering student projects on display at the annual Capstone Design symposia, which runs from March 13-27 on the 2nd floor of E7 at the University of Waterloo.

Over 1,000 students across 12 programs will present more than 350 projects they have spent months designing and building. New for 2024 is the Interdisciplinary symposia of projects, which will wrap up the events on March 27th.

"Capstone Design is the ultimate showcase for our talented new cohort of engineers," says Dr. Mary Wells, Dean of Engineering. "It allows students to leverage the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom and through co-op work terms to create projects that have a real impact. These symposia offer a firsthand look at a huge range of technologies, products and ideas, and highlight the potential of our students to make a difference in their communities and globally."

On March 28th, up to 12 qualifying teams will compete for prizes in a pitch presentation funded by the Esch Foundation. New this year, all competitors will receive funding thanks to the generosity of the donors. The winner of the Sedra People’s Choice Award will receive an additional $4,500 in funding.
