Environment official is new engineer-in-residence

A senior environmental official with York Region is the 2021 Douglas Wright Engineer-in-Residence for the civil and environmental engineering department at the University of Waterloo.

Erin Mahoney is commissioner of environmental services for York, overseeing water and wastewater, waste management, forestry and other services for 1.2 million residents in the regional municipality north of Toronto.

Erin Mahoney is the commissioner of environmental services for York Region.

Named after the founding dean of Waterloo Engineering, the engineer-in-residence program is designed as a resource for faculty members and students to engage in various ways with senior professionals in the field.

Mahoney has over 30 years of public and private sector experience. In addition to numerous other professional roles and responsibilities, she is a board member of Sustainable Development Technology Canada and a past chair of the Regional Public Works Commissioners of Ontario.
