As students return to school, Waterloo Collegiate Institute's Janelle Tam was featured in the September 4 edition of Premier Dalton McGuinty's blog. Janelle is the daughter of Dr. Michael Tam, a faculty member in Waterloo's Department of Chemical Engineering and a member of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology.

With guidance from her mentor, Dr. Zhaoling Yao (also from Chemical Engineering), Janelle won the prestigious BioGENEius Challenge Canada for proving that nano-crystalline cellulose (NCC) can be used as a powerful antioxidant. She's returning to WCI for her final year of high school, but has already made her mark on the engineering world as an extended member of the Waterloo family.

Congratulations, Janelle, and best of luck in the upcoming school year!
