Prof wins funding under early researcher program

A professor at Waterloo Engineering has been awarded $140,000 over five years under a provincial program to help new researchers build their research teams.

Chris Bachmann, a professor of civil and environmental engineering, is one of eight campus-wide winners of Early Researcher Awards for 2022. Winners also receive $50,000 each from their home institutions.

Chris Bachmann, a professor of civil and environmental engineering, is doing research related to the safety of crude oil transportation via rail.

Project submissions are assessed on the excellence of the researcher, the quality of the proposal, the potential to develop research talent and the anticipated benefits for Ontario.

Bachmann and his team will study the behaviour of crude oil shippers and pipeline regulators to develop computer simulation models to help improve the safety of crude oil transportation by rail.
