Chemical engineering professor Costas Tzoganakis has been elected as a Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers for outstanding contributions in the field of plastics engineering, science and technology. He was officially recognized on May 22 during the society's 74thAnnual Technical Conference in Indianapolis, IN.
Tzoganakis, pictured on the right, is also a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the CTO of Tyromer Inc, a startup company of the University of Waterloo. Tyromer uses rubber devulcanization technology based on a unique patented reactive extrusion process developed in Tzoganakis's laboratory.
Tzoganakis is an expert in the area of reactive extrusion of polymers and has authored several patents as well as over 100 refereed publications. In 2015, he received the Heinz List Award from the Extrusion Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers in recognition of his outstanding achievements in reactive processing of polymer.
