Dr. Yimin A. Wu, a professor with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, is the inaugural recipient of the Tang Family Chair in New Energy Materials and Sustainability.
Wu will receive $1.2 million over five years to support his research in designing energy materials for solar fuels and solar windows to assist society’s transition to renewable energy.
Roger Tang said the new Chair was established to “encourage further opportunities for higher learning and to accelerate research for commercialization.”
The funding will enable Wu to recruit highly qualified personnel such as graduate students and postdocs to the research team.
“I am honoured by the Tang Family’s recognition and generosity,” said Wu. “As Chair, I will lead upcoming researchers in the field of sustainable energy design and development to advance promising technologies and commercialize impactful solutions.”
