Register for the 2014 Teaching and Learning Conference

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

If you attended the 2013 Teaching and Learning Conference, you may recall noticing an Engineering flavour. The 2014 Teaching and Learning Conference is set to once again offer attendees a good selection of general and Engineering-specific teaching development topics.

The morning sessions include a presentation by Gordon Stubley, Engineering's associate dean, teaching, on his experience undertaking a course redesign to improve student engagement. In the early afternoon sessions, Katharina Hassel and Christine Moresoli of chemical engineering will discuss the use of active learning strategies in a first-year classroom, and Dave Wang of electrical and computer engineering will demonstrate his use of tablet technology in the classroom.

And in the late afternoon sessions, Ada Hurst of management sciences and Oscar Nespoli of mechanical and mechatronics engineering will discuss their experience using peer assessment in a capstone design course, while Moresoli and Jason Grove also of chemical engineering will give a presentation describing their experience developing strategies to assess value-based outcomes.

The popular Igniting our Practice session will feature sample lessons by Hamid Jahed of mechanical and mechatronics engineering and Kelly Anthony of Applied Health Sciences. New this year is the afternoon Big Questions Session, an informal session facilitated by Centre for Teaching Excellence members in which participants are invited to bring forward questions about anything related to teaching and learning. Lunch at the University Club is included in your registration. You can review the draft conference program (PDF) for more details.

Engineering's representation at the 2013 conference was wonderful to see, and we hope to see you at this year's conference.
