Three students in finals of research video contest

Friday, February 16, 2018

Three students at Waterloo Engineering are still in the running for prizes in a research-related video contest sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

The contest, called Science, Action!, is offering 15 cash prizes – including a $3,500 grand prize - for the best 60-second videos by post-secondary students that show how NSERC-funded research will improve lives.

Karly Smith and Lee Yu Wu, both biomedical engineering undergraduates, and Jian Zhao, a PhD candidate in mechanical and mechatronics engineering, represent Waterloo Engineering among 75 country-wide finalists who have had their entries posted online by NSERC.

The 25 videos with the most views by March 2 will go to a panel of judges, who will select the 15 winners.

The finalists from Waterloo Engineering and their videos are:

Karly Smith – Smarter Interfaces using Radar

Lee Yu Wu – Use RISKK to Reduce Risk

Jian Zhao – Make Electricity Cleaner
