One professor at Waterloo Engineering was announced this week as a new Canada Research Chair, while a second had his funding through the federal program renewed for seven more years.
Ning Jiang, a professor of systems design engineering, is the new Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence for Human-centered and Human-machine Interfaces, with $500,000 in funding over five years.
John McPhee, also a professor of systems design engineering, is the continuing Canada Research Chair in Biomechatronic System Dynamics, backed by $1.4 million over seven years.
Both chairs are supported through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
Across the country, the federal government announced $125 million in funding for 156 new or renewed chairs at 36 institutions.
One new chair was created and an existing chair was renewed in other faculties at the University of Waterloo.
