Meet Nusayba!
Hi there - My name is Nusayba Sultana! I'm a Chemical Engineering student going into my 3B term in Winter 2022. During my co-op terms, I’ve worked on battery research, in the steelmaking industry, and in energy efficiency. Outside of school and work, I love eating at new restaurants, photography, and listening to podcasts!
Why did you choose your specific program?
The versatility of this degree really appealed to me. As a chemical engineer, you can get involved in so many different industries. You can be a chemical engineer in various manufacturing plants, battery development, and the energy industry, just to name a few examples. Chemical engineers are also involved in very important industries. For example, climate change is a vital issue that can be addressed by chemical engineers working in alternative energy, wastewater treatment, etc.
Favourite co-op placement so far?
It's so hard to choose since all my co-ops have been very interesting in their own ways. For example, I spent a term working for the Government of Canada. I got to work with pilot scale equipment used in blast furnace ironmaking. It was really cool seeing the coke ovens in action and experiencing all the work that goes into collecting samples used for experiments every day. I got to work on a few different projects during my time there like developing sustainable materials to be used in ironmaking.
Proudest achievement? (academic or personal)
It’s hard to pick out one achievement as my proudest. I’ll just say that I’m extremely proud of myself to be able to keep up my academics while maintaining a fun and happy lifestyle. It hasn’t been easy, but with great friends around me, participating in awesome opportunities at school, and making good use of my Google Calendar, I’ve been able to maintain a great lifestyle that I really enjoy.
