Meet Shayna Panthee!
Hi, my name is Shayna Panthee and I will be going into my second year of Architectural Engineering in Winter 2022. I am currently working as a Web Migration Intern with the Faculty of Engineering. Some of my hobbies outside of school are playing volleyball and tennis.
Why did you choose to study Architectural Engineering?
I chose to study Architectural Engineering because I've always wanted to become an architect since a very young age. At the same time, I also wanted to know the fundamental principles of engineering that are applied to make high-performing structures that are sustainable, resilient, and economically viable. Studying Architectural Engineering at the University of Waterloo gives me that perfect opportunity to learn both the design and fundamentals. Plus, being in a co-op program gives me the opportunity to apply my knowledge that I gain from my study term out in the work field.
What is your favourite Waterloo memory?
My fav Waterloo memory was being able to stay in Waterloo residence and making friends even during the pandemic. Even though our courses were online, I got the opportunity to meet people from different programs and really experience the student life.
Advice for incoming students? What should incoming students look forward to at Waterloo?
Don’t let your program confine you. The University of Waterloo gives students so many opportunities to explore and learn various skills that don’t even have to be related to your program. This really gives students the opportunity to expand their interests and helps clarify what they might want to do in future.
