Concert Highlights Indigenous-Mennonite Relationships
Last month, the Theatre of the Arts at the University of Waterloo was brimming with thrumming beats, haunting voices, layered melodies, and a unique blend of electronic cello and traditional Indigenous music. As part of the Indigenous-Mennonite Encounters conference organized by Conrad Grebel University College, Indigenous and Mennonite musicians offered a concert that addressed relationships, beauty, nature, hope, and betrayal.
Join us for an engaging jazz concert in July. Directed by Michael Wood, the Jazz Ensemble has members from all 6 Faculties, particularly Mathematics. This term they will be featuring the music of Mike Tomaro … Neal Hefti … Dave Wolpe & Rob McConnell.

Connection, Disconnection, and Reconnection: Indigenous-Mennonite Encounters
The Indigenous Mennonite Encounters in Time and Place: A Gathering of Body, Mind, and Spirit conference was held at Conrad Grebel University College on May 12-15, 2022. It was a valuable opportunity to hear stories of encounters and relationships between Indigenous peoples and Mennonite settlers on Turtle Island (aka Canada).
Bangishimo is an IndigiQueer Anishinaabe photographer originally from Couchiching First Nations. They are a community organizer for Idle No More and co-founder of O:se Kenhionhata:tie, also known as Land Back Camp.
Bangishimo will be sharing their journey into the world of photography, how they created "On the Land" and some of the projects they are currently working on.

Conrad Grebel University College has appointed Dr. David Y. Neufeld as Assistant Professor of History, beginning July 1, 2022, succeeding Professor Marlene Epp who retires this summer.
New Director of Student Services Feels Called to Role
After an extensive search, Conrad Grebel University College has named Beverley Fretz as Director of Student Services. The search committee found Fretz to be authentic, energetic, and engaging, with clear enthusiasm for Grebel and its mission and values.
International Student Finds Home at Grebel
“Being an international student can usually be challenging, but having a supporting environment eases your adaptation,” said Thalia Stefania Criollo Guerrero an international student from Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Conrad Grebel University College and the University of Waterloo.
Winter Ensemble Concerts a Treat for the Ears
The University of Waterloo Music Department at Grebel was pleased to welcome small audiences back in person to enjoy end-of-term ensemble concerts this April. Also recorded for a broader audience, this treat for the ears showcased musical talent from the Chamber Choir, University Choir, Balinese Gamelan, Orchestra@UWaterloo, Jazz Ensemble, and small instrumental chamber ensembles. Participants include students from all faculties at UWaterloo, strengthening the connection between science, technology, engineering, math, and arts!
