OMMC participants laugh together on the patio, holding hymnals

OMMC is a faith-based camp, welcoming campers from Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas. The camp is supported by the Mennonite Church of Eastern Canada and Conrad Grebel University College.

OMMC's goal is to provide an exciting camp experience for teens, while developing their musical and leadership skills and their personal faith, to enable them to return to their churches and become musical leaders. Morning chapel services and faith focused discussions are a part of each day. Campers have daily master class lessons with their instruments; piano, strings, voice or winds, and practice time built into the afternoon. In morning choir rehearsals, campers learn 4-part harmony and prepare choral pieces for a local church service during camp and for their final concert.

Afternoons are filled with rehearsals, workshops and fun camp activities. In past years, campers have enjoyed learning swing dancing, conducting, choral gospel singing and African drum circles. Capture the flag, obstacle courses, swimming and soccer-baseball are just a few of the games campers look forward to playing. Other camp activities include a trip to the beach, participating in a community outreach project, secret friends and theme days. Every day ends with songs and skits around the campfire.

OMMC invites local musicians to perform evening concerts for the camp. Special guests have included string quartets, opera singers, and free improvisation ensembles.

OMMC provides two main opportunities for the youth to show their musical skills publicly during camp. The first is providing music for a local church during their Sunday morning service. The second is a concert put on by the campers. This concert includes individual and group performances and ends with a full-fledged musical, prepared by the campers in only 12 days!

Staff members are university students studying music at various universities including Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Waterloo. Many of our staff members have become prominent musicians within the Kitchener-Waterloo region. The camp is held at Conrad Grebel University College and the campers have access to the University of Waterloo’s music facilities, including practice rooms and concert venues.

You will find copies of forms below for your information. You do NOT need to send these forms in with the initial registration. You will receive further email instructions closer to camp regarding when to fill out these forms.
