Conrad Grebel University College
Conrad Grebel University College is a liberal arts college founded by the Mennonite church and affiliated with the University of Waterloo. The mission and programs of Grebel are rooted in and inspired by its Christian identity and its Anabaptist/Mennonite heritage. Grebel offers undergraduate, graduate, and community education programs in peace and conflict studies, music, theological and religious studies, and Mennonite studies. It also has a residence and apartment which house approximately 170 university students and is home to the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement.
The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement
Established in 2014, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (hereafter CPA) aspires to attract peace innovators, and to be a state of the art academic hub that incubates and advances collaborative, inter-disciplinary, multi-sector peacemaking. The CPA’s mission is to advance expansive and innovative understandings and practices of peace locally and globally by catalyzing collaboration among its participants and partners in ways that seek wisdom, nurture faith and serve church and society.
General Scope
The CPA Coordinator assists the CPA Director in implementing the vision and mission of the CPA. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all CPA programs as well as associated program development and support activities.
Departmental Data
The CPA staff team consists of the CPA Director and Coordinator, with additional support provided by occasional and part-time student roles. This team supports the efforts of a larger community of CPA participants, which includes the staff of the 6 affiliate organizations co-located at the CPA, 4-8 peace start-ups, and Research Fellows.
Specific Responsibilities
Program Development and Support
Administration:
- Connect and enliven the CPA community through weekly e-mail updates and coffee breaks
- Book rooms and address other logistics for CPA participants’ meetings and events, including custodial and food services
- Coordinate the initiation and renewal of MOUs with incubator members, orient new incubator members
- Process Peace Incubator Fund applications and disbursements
- Coordinate the initiation and renewal of License Agreements with Core Collaborators, orient new staff members
- Promote engagement and employment opportunities with CPA participants
- Track research outputs
- Coordinate the vetting of Grebel Gallery exhibits
- Draft artist agreements
- Capture participant, activity, and impact data
- Assist the CPA Director on the CPA annual program plan and annual report
- Train and provide functional supervision for occasional and part-time student roles on the CPA team
- Perform other duties from time to time as assigned by the CPA Director
- Contribute to a hospitable and collegial climate for all members of the CPA and College community
Communication:
- Lead the creation and execution of external communication for the CPA including but not limited to:
- Website, social media
- Monthly e-newsletter
- Impact stories for external publications
- Assist with the nomination of CPA participants for awards and other forms of public recognition
- Support marketing and recruitment efforts for Grebel’s residence and academic programs
Convening:
- Schedule meetings and take minutes for groups that support CPA programs, including:
- Grebel Peace Incubator Mentorship Circle – monthly lunches to engage Incubator members, one virtual meeting per semester to make recommendations for Peace Incubator Fund distributions
- CPA Research Hub – one meeting per term to share updates among Research Fellows, staff with affiliate organizations with research expertise, interested Grebel faculty, and research assistants
- Grebel Gallery Team – one meeting per term to help plan and implement exhibits
- CPA Advisory Committee – three “town hall” meetings per year to deepen connections between CPA participants and provide an external perspective on the overall direction of the CPA
Funding:
- Provide assistance as needed to the CPA Director as they:
- Pursue additional sponsorship, grant, and donor opportunities for Incubator programming and the Peace Incubator Fund
- Collaborate on grant opportunities with current and future Incubator members
- Collaborate on grant opportunities with campus partners to strengthen support for social innovation
- Collaborate on grant opportunities with Core Collaborators for research projects
- Pursue funding opportunities for co-op positions and paid internships with CPA participants and partners
- Pursue additional grant and donor opportunities for future exhibits and the Grebel Gallery Endowment Fund
Program Projects

- Coordinate activities related to the annual Map the System competition at the University of Waterloo
- Coordinate events for Peace Week with Grebel and community partners
Position Requirements
Education
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in a field related to peacebuilding, is required
Skills / Experience
- Support for the identity, mission, values and programs of Conrad Grebel University College and the Centre for Peace Advancement in particular

Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills to work productively and collegially with CPA participants, College faculty, staff, students, constituents and guests are required

Excellent organizational and time management skills are required

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy is required

Experience in digital communications is required

Demonstrated initiative, with the ability to work by objective with minimal direct oversight is required

Strong competence in Microsoft 365, website maintenance (using a content management system), customer relationship management platforms, and virtual meeting platforms is required

Nature and Scope
Contacts: Internally, the incumbent will work closely with all affiliate organizations of the Centre. Within Grebel the incumbent works regularly with a wide range of Grebel staff including the Peace and Conflict Studies Department, Development Department, Communications Department, IT & Events Coordinator & Operations teams including Food Services and Human Resources. Externally, the incumbent will interact with the public, attendees of workshops and conferences and other events and regularly with funders like Kindred.
Level of Responsibility: The incumbent will be responsible to provide functional supervision to students when hired.
Decision-Making Authority: Make day-to-day decisions in line with the tasks and responsibilities within the scope of the role, and escalate other decisions when required to consult with the Director of the Centre
Physical and Sensory Demands: The incumbent will primarily work at a public facing reception desk in the Centre. For Gallery exhibits there will be occasional need to lift or work with awkward items within a reasonable weight. This position requires knowledge of the university’s structure, policies and procedures; flexibility and ability to cope with changing workload and deadlines, and willingness to learn new skills to meet the evolving needs of the workplace.
Working Environment: The incumbent will often work independently in the office. The work is varied and subject to deadline pressures. Thus, the incumbent must have the ability to prioritize activities and excellent time management skills.
