About our conversation partners
Senator Harder’s years of experience in the civil service began as the Student Council president at Grebel in the 70s and culminated in his role as Government representative in the Senate from 2016 to 2021. Mr. Harder spent 29 years in the federal public service, including an impressive 16 years as Deputy Minister, which included heading the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Citizenship and Immigration, Industry, Solicitor General, Public Security, and the Treasury Board Secretariat. As Deputy Minister, he oversaw the legislative process of countless bills and has appeared before standing committees of the House of Commons and the Senate.
Called to the bar in 2002, Marcus Shantz practiced law in Toronto before returning home to Waterloo Region. He was CEO of a locally-owned property business in St. Jacobs for several years before his appointment as President of Grebel in 2017. His interest in politics, religion and history will make this a spirited discussion.
