For more than 40 years, Janet Martin has been a valued member of the Grebel community, whose dedication, knowledge, and steady presence have left a lasting mark on both the kitchen team and the College as a whole.

Colleagues often speak of her reliability, patience, and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. She has been a mentor to many staff members, sharing her experience generously and helping new team members feel welcomed and supported. Janet is especially known for her amazing baking, high standards, and genuine care for the people she works with.

Many in the kitchen will miss her sense of humour, her calm approach during busy meal services, and the countless conversations and laughs shared over the years. One of her most memorable contributions is being credited with bringing the famous twisted knot buns to Grebel, a tradition and favourite that has become part of the dining experience for generations of students and guests.

As she begins retirement, Janet leaves behind a legacy of excellence, teamwork, and community that will continue to be felt long after her last day. While we will certainly miss Janet’s expertise in the kitchen, we will miss her friendship and daily presence even more.

(For now, Janet is sticking around Grebel a bit longer and working in the kitchen once a week on a casual basis.)
