In December of 2013, South Sudan fell into debilitating internal violence. This also affected the South Sudanese community in Kitchener-Waterloo. Leaders in the community identified the need for local conflict mediation training.

This fall, the newly created MSCU Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel University College responded to this call from the KW South Sudanese Community and its Peacebuilding Taskforce by coordinating a six-week conflict management course.

On September 21st, Conrad Grebel University College celebrated the International Day of Peace with the official opening of the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA).

A large framed picture of Malala has long been displayed in the Peace and Conflict Studies Department office at Conrad Grebel University College. If people didn’t notice it before, they certainly are noticing it today.

The fall season always brings energy and vigour to the Conrad Grebel University College community, welcoming new and returning students to the University of Waterloo campus. Students and parents were greeted on Move-In Day this year at Grebel’s new and welcoming front entrance! This 2014-15 cohort is the first group of students to enjoy the College’s new facilities.

From July 28th to August 1st, Conrad Grebel University College hosted Peace Camp, a one-week peace education program for youth ages 11-14. This was the first year that Peace Camp graduates rejoined the program as junior leaders.

The Alumni Committee of Conrad Grebel University College is pleased to announce the selection of Lisa Schirch (BA 1990) as the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

It was a joyful atmosphere on June 26, as 130 guests attended the Ralph and Eileen Lebold Endowment for Leadership Training Fundraising Banquet. Not only was the crowd looking forward to a delicious meal and a thought-provoking keynote, but this tenth annual event marked the achievement of an important milestone as the endowment surpassed one million dollars.

With sadness, the Conrad Grebel University College community mourns the loss of Professor Wilbur Maust on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Bill Maust was Professor of Music at Grebel for 20 years until he retired in 1996.

Director Named to lead MSCU Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel.

Paul Heidebrecht has been named Director of the new Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU) Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo.
