Dr. Marlene Epp, Professor of History and Peace and Conflict Studies at Conrad Grebel has been named interim dean at the College beginning January 4, 2016.  Dr. Epp is a senior scholar with 15 years of service to Grebel, including serving as dean on two other occasions in the history of the College. As dean, her role is first and foremost to provide academic leadership to the College, with special emphasis on providing support for the many new academic hires at Grebel since 2011 (nine), and leading the search for a tenth hire in practical theology this winter term.

As the Syrian refugee crisis remains at the forefront of international news, Conrad Grebel University College is working on numerous refugee related initiatives. These tangible and educational responses are rooted in the Mennonite heritage of the College that includes refugee experiences and an impulse to respond to those in need.

This weekend there will be 2 concerts featuring the music of Arvo Pärt to which you are invited.  Pärt, the most often performed living composer in the world, celebrated his 80th birthday this fall.  The concerts this weekend together celebrate the living legacy of this deeply spiritual and prolific composer.

On Thursday, October 29, 2015, seventy people gathered in the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) to join Project Ploughshares (an affiliate member of the CPA) in celebrating the launch of Ernie Regehr’s book entitled, Disarming Conflict: Why Peace Cannot Be Won on the Battlefield.

Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) and Conrad Grebel University College are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Bailey-Dick as Coordinator of the new Anabaptist Learning Workshop, a Church and Ministry certificate program of MCEC and Conrad Grebel. “I’m very excited about this program,” says Matthew Bailey-Dick, newly appointed Coordinator of the Anabaptist Learning Workshop (ALW).

In November of 2005, Shannon Moroney’s life changed drastically. A respected educator, proud homeowner, active volunteer and happy newlywed, her world was shattered when a police officer informed her that her then-husband Jason had confessed to the violent sexual assault and kidnapping of two women in her home.  In the years to follow, Moroney processed her own victimization while discovering what it meant to be a partner to a person who had offended sexually. 

The Alumni Committee of Conrad Grebel University College is pleased to announce the selection of John Wideman (BA 2009) as the 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo is pleased to be offering a new course titled “Refugees and Forced Migration” in Winter 2016. This course will assist students in understanding and responding to the current global refugee crisis.

Adding to this concentration of ideas and change, the MSCU Center for Peace Advancement (CPA) is joining Waterloo’s innovation ecosystem with the launch of the Frank and Helen Epp Peace Incubator.
