Coping with Grief and Cumulative Loss Session

Coping with Grief and Cumulative Loss session

The wellbeing of our staff and faculty is top of mind. The pandemic situation will endure awhile longer, and many of us have not had time to fully process what has happened over the past year. To help support you through this difficult time, in partnership with Homewood Health, the Faculty of Engineering is offering two sessions on Coping with Grief and Cumulative Loss.

About the Session

Loss is one of life’s most stressful events. It takes time to heal, and everyone responds differently. 2020 was a year filled with cumulative losses, including the loss of many members of our Engineering community. Many people associate grief with the death of an important person or pet. However, people experience grief after any important loss that affects their life, such as the loss of a job or relationship, or changes in health. Many health researchers are currently exploring pandemic-related grief resulting from not only the loss of the people in our lives through loss of life (COVID and non-COVID related), but also through stay-at-home restrictions. In addition, pandemic measures have impacted freedoms, shifted our society in large and small ways, created set-backs in our research, and created difficult situations for many families that now find themselves all working together from home.

Structure of the Sessions

First hour – Presentation from the facilitator on the nature of grief and suggestions on how to cope with loss and cumulative loss. Questions can be placed in the chat to create conversation and dialogue.

Second hour (optional) – For those interested in processing together in a small group, you can remain on the call and participate in an interactive, small group processes.

Third hour (optional) – Phone lines will be open for those who would like to speak with the facilitator individually. (the number below will be provided during the session).
