To explore or request a transfer into an Engineering Plan (excluding Architecture), follow the steps outlined below:

If you are a registered UWaterloo Engineering student

  • submit a Plan Modification Form to E2 1772, or email engineering transfers
  • provide a short explanation with your reasons for wanting to transfer
  • your request will be acknowledged within a few business days, with further information
  • a final decision may not be possible for several months, depending on your circumstances

Please note that transfer opportunities depend on space availability and course match up with your current plan. Some transfers are not likely without losing a year.

For transfers into 2A and beyond

  • contact the undergraduate office advisor for the plan which you are interested

If you are a registered UWaterloo student in another Faculty

  • submit a Plan Modification Form to E2 1772, or email engineering transfers
  • provide a short explanation with your reasons for wanting to transfer
  • in most cases a transfer into Engineering will require starting in first year (September), however we will confirm this after reviewing your request
  • transfers into most Engineering plans will usually only be considered if you have a 75% plus average, in the prior terms of your current program/plan
  • transfers are also dependent on space availability

Students from other universities

  • apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre OUAC
  • Waterloo admits very few transfer applicants due to the difficulty in matching coursework and work experience to our requirements

Non-degree term

In some cases you will need to demonstrate that you have the ability in your requested field before you can be admitted. One technique used is for you to enrol in a non-degree term. This term is one that normally does not count as an academic term, but provides an opportunity for you to take courses relevant to the requested field to strengthen your case for admission. There are various constraints on such non-degree terms and you are advised to meet with your current academic advisor to determine how it may be helpful in your situation. You will also need a clear indication from the academic advisor in the plan into which you want to transfer as to which courses you must (and are able to) take to earn admission.
