Women
of
Impact
is
a
collection
of
interviews
from
women
pioneers
and
leaders
in
the
material,
metallurgy,
and
mining
industries.
This
year-long
project
is
an
inspirational
piece
that
is
a
record
of
their
experiences
and
career
accomplishments.
As
it
stands,
female
participation
in
materials,
metallurgy
and
mining
technical
positions
are
between
13
to
15
per
cent.
These
fields
are
one
of
the
lowest
gender-diverse
among
primary
industry
categories
in
Canada.
The
hope
of
this
collection
is
to
give
a
new
and
exciting
perspective
on
the
impact
women
have
in
science
and
engineering,
and
encourage
the
current
and
future
generation
of
women
in
these
fields.
Each
interviewed
women
got
a
separate
profile,
which
begins
with
a
short
biography.
The
diversity
of
these
women
can
be
seen
here,
as
many
are
from
very
different
races,
ethnicities,
and
cultural
and
socioeconomic
backgrounds.
Even
their
experiences
differ
as
they
worked
in
academia,
government,
or
in
the
private
sector
–
in
Canada
and
abroad.
The
next
part
of
their
profile
was
a
first-person
narrative
of
their
personal
and
professional
life,
with
questions
asking
them
about
their
initial
attraction
to
their
field
of
specialization,
their
decision
to
study
science
or
engineering,
and
the
factors
that
led
to
their
success.
