CIVIC Hack is a free online hackathon from the Future Cities Institute. Attendees at the 2026 State of Canada’s Cities Summit in Ottawa will vote
on five municipal challenges, and the winning challenge will be revealed at launch on Thursday, November 12, at 6 p.m. ET.

Dr. Terry Stewart is currently an NRC Canada Associate Research Officer and adjunct professor with the Dept of Psychology at the University of Waterloo. He is a former member of the Computational Neuroscience Research group at the University of Waterloo working with Chris Eliasmith on the development of Spaun and the Nengo software

Olivia DeRamus challenges us to reconsider how AI is being used to keep people safe online. Despite billions of dollars invested in content moderation, today's platforms often amplify misogynistic and radicalizing content while suppressing the women and survivors attempting to share their own experiences.

Dr. Jennifer Boger challenges us to consider a population that AI often overlooks: older adults. Through practical examples and candid discussion, Jennifer will highlight why inclusive design is no longer optional but essential as AI becomes increasingly embedded in our daily lives.
