Waterloo Engineering alumni recently gathered for a vibrant and sun-soaked celebration on campus.
The Engineering classes of 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 enjoyed a weekend of reconnecting and socializing, attending lectures, exploring new buildings and celebrating this milestone in their engineering careers together.
The celebrations began with two special screenings of the documentary Rock This Town. The film follows the rich and surprising history of live music in the Waterloo Region, largely initiated by Joe Recchia (BASc ’68, chemical engineering and MASc ’71, management sciences and systems engineering).
Reunion events continued with Waterloo Engineering dean Dr. Mary Wells delivering a visionary lecture about the future of engineering at the University of Waterloo followed by the Engineering Back-to-the Classroom Lecture with Dr. Larry Smith, professor of economics at Waterloo.
Five Waterloo Engineering researchers gave lightning talks on their research at the Drink Talk Learn Engineering Research Talks, introducing many in the audience to the Waterloo at 100 Global Futures vision.
A social mixer at POETS, a BBQ on the E7 patio and a Reunion Dinner Party complete with displays from the University of Waterloo Archives added much revelry and reminiscence making it a reunion to remember.
