Two Waterloo Engineering faculty members and three alumni are new fellows of the prestigious Canadian Academy of Engineering.

Zhongwei Chen, a Waterloo chemical engineering professor, Xianguo Li, a Waterloo mechanical and mechatronics engineering  professor, along with alumni Tom Chau (PhD '98, SD), Andrew Pollard (BASc '75, Mech) and William Rosehart (BASc '96, MASc '97, PhD '01, Elect) were inducted into the academy on June 26 at the institution's annual general meeting.

The academy is the national organization through which Canada's most distinguished and experienced engineers provide strategic advice on matters of critical importance to Canada. It is a founding member of the Council of Canadian Academies, along with the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

A total of 50 new fellows and two international fellows were inducted by Douglas Ruth, president of the academy.

"In our past, Fellows of the Academy have produced major studies in the fields of education, energy and innovation; we look forward as to how these new Fellows will explore new and exciting areas of engineering and their impact on public policy,” said Ruth in the news release announcing the new fellows.
