Five incoming students in the Faculty of Engineering are among this year's cohort of Schulich Leaders, Canada's most coveted undergraduate STEM scholarship, joining the University of Waterloo this fall.
Anna Denisova (Computer Engineering), Kaumudi Jeevendra (Mechanical Engineering), Shiza Khan (Mechatronics Engineering), Onna Okeke (Mechatronics Engineering) and Noah Robinson (Electrical Engineering) were recognized for their entrepreneurial mindset, leadership and commitment to making a meaningful impact.
Denisova, who founded her high school's first in-house coding competition, hopes to build automation and robotics technologies that improve efficiency and reduce waste. Jeevendra aims to become a nuclear engineer while using her writing to help the public understand complex science. Khan is developing accessible technologies and plans to launch a company focused on inclusive, software-driven spaces. Okeke, a competitive swimmer and Olympic Trials qualifier, has already built prototypes ranging from a "fish light" to curb overfishing to a phone-locking system for procrastination. Robinson led a team to victory in a district-wide innovation competition with a wildfire prevention solution and plans to explore machine learning to tackle real-world problems.
