Four professors elected as Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineering

This May four Waterloo Engineering professors were elected into the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) as Fellows. New Fellows are selected for their outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada and around the world and for their service as role models in their fields and to their communities.

The CAE is the national institution through which individuals, who have made outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada, provide strategic advice on matters of critical importance. Fellows are committed to ensuring that Canada’s engineering expertise and experience are applied to the benefit of all Canadians.

The following faculty members were elected as CAE Fellows in 2024.

Dr. Ladan Tahvildari is a global expert in software quality addressing challenging problems related to the architecture, security, and testing of dependable systems. She is Chair of the IEEE CS Technical Community on Software Engineering – the world's largest professional organization devoted to computer science.

Dr. Ehsan Toyserkani has made pioneering contributions to the modeling, simulation, in-situ monitoring, and quality assurance of metal Additive Manufacturing. He is Canada Research Chair in Additive Manufacturing.

Dr. Costas Tzoganakis’ work on rubber devulcanization has resulted in the commercialization of a technology which offers a sustainable, financially viable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible solution to the end-of-life tires problem.

Dr. Alfred Yu is a pioneer of high-frame-rate ultrasound imaging technology that has transformed clinical ultrasound scanners and cardiovascular diagnostics. His discoveries in therapeutic ultrasound have established the mechanistic basis of ultrasound-mediated drug delivery.
