Prof recognized by American Iron and Steel Institute

Dr. Michael Worswick has received the Market Development Industry Leadership Award from the American Iron and Steel Institute. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing the competitive use of steel in the marketplace.

Worswick, a professor in mechanical and mechatronics engineering, is the co-director of the Waterloo Forming and Crash Lab. The lab was established to advance the application of high-performance automotive materials to reduce vehicle weight, while maintaining crash safety. His work furthers the understanding of the behavior of automotive steel grades under all conditions. This is research helps to underscore the value of steel within the automotive industry, highlighting the material as a cost-effective and sustainable solution for making vehicles more light weight.


The award was presented to Worswick, alongside engineer Brian Keierleber, by Lourenco Goncalves, AISI Chairman. “We are pleased to recognize the leadership and unwavering dedication of Brian and Michael and their passion for conveying the benefits of steel as the material of choice in these key markets. Their expertise is a tremendous asset to the steel industry,” said Goncalves.
