Profs recognized for their influential research

The 2023 list of Highly Cited Researchers names four Waterloo Engineering professors as researchers who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their fields of research.

The recognized professors are Dr. Zhongwei Chen, chemical engineering, Canada Research Chair in Advanced Materials for Clean Energy; Dr. Michael Fowler, chemical engineering, Canada Research Chair in Zero-Emission Vehicles and Hydrogen Energy Systems (Tier-1); Dr. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen, electrical and computer engineering; Dr. Aiping Yu, chemical engineering, director of the Carbon Nanomaterials Laboratory for Renewable Energy and Multi-functional Composites and University Research Chair.

The annual list of Highly Cited Researchers is published by Clarivate, an insights and intelligence company that gathers data from around the world to provide people and organizations with trustworthy information.

Analysts at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) recognized 6,849 Highly Cited Researchers in 2023 from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 nations and regions. The evaluation and selection process draws on data from the Web of Science citation index, together with analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the ISI at Clarivate.
