Two Waterloo Engineering professors are panelists at this year’s RAPID Canada Conference taking place this week in Mississauga.

Pearl Sullivan, dean of engineering, and Ehsan Toyserkani, a mechanical and mechatronics engineering professor, are participating in the conference, an industry-leading forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest developments, trends and techniques specific to additive manufacturing, rapid technologies, and 3D printing.

Nafeesa Mahboob, an electrical and computer engineering doctoral canadiate, received the Basil Papadias Student Paper Award for the best student paper at the biannual IEEE PowerTech 2015 Conference held in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

The paper was co-authored by her two doctoral supervisors Claudio Canizares and Catherine Rosenberg, both electrical and computer engineering professors. The award was presented with a plaque and 1000 euros.

Waterloo electrical and computer engineering professor Zhou Wang is one of the new cohort of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. The 48 new members, who were nominated by 51 Canadian universities and the National Research Council, represent the emerging generation of scholarly, scientific and artistic leadership in Canada.

Tyromer Inc, a company established by the University of Waterloo to commercialize a greener way to recycle scrap tire rubber and manage scrap tire waste has opened a new facility housed inside the AirBoss Rubber Compounding building on Glasgow Street in Kitchener. 

Voltera V-One, a custom circuit board printer developed as a Capstone Design project by Waterloo nanotechnology and mechatronics engineering students, has made the international shortlist of the prestigious James Dyson

​Two women entering Waterloo Engineering programs are among six campus-wide to receive the first University of Waterloo HeForShe IMPACT Scholarships.

Two Schulich Leader Scholarship recipients are now first-year Waterloo Engineering students.  

Ella Rasmussen and Aaron Grenke have both joined the Faculty's mechanical and mechatronics engineering department.

A robotics competitor since Grade 6, Rasmussen co-founded and co-captained a team that took home 15 awards from regional, provincial, and international events in its 2013-2014 season.

Electrical and Computer Engineering professor Michael Reimer helped to develop the first source of on-demand single time-bin entangle photon pairs with no possibility of producing extra unwanted pairs. Reimer, who is part of Waterloo's Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), worked with a team of international researchers to complete the project.

Waterloo Engineering grad Ibraheem Khan is praised for his contributions to Canada's economy in a news piece from CBC today. His company, Smarter Alloys, just announced that they will begin manufacturing prototypes at a Waterloo facility, and is cited as a a "good example of growth" for Canada.
