Alumni Award Winner lays Groundwork for Building Peace

The Alumni Committee of Conrad Grebel University College is pleased to announce the selection of Lisa Schirch (BA 1990) as the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

It was a joyful atmosphere on June 26, as 130 guests attended the Ralph and Eileen Lebold Endowment for Leadership Training Fundraising Banquet. Not only was the crowd looking forward to a delicious meal and a thought-provoking keynote, but this tenth annual event marked the achievement of an important milestone as the endowment surpassed one million dollars.

loss of Professor Wilbur Maust on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Bill Maust was Professor of Music at Grebel for 20 years until he retired in 1996.
Director Named to lead MSCU Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel.
Paul Heidebrecht has been named Director of the new Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU) Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo.
Over one hundred years ago, Bertha von Suttner, an avid Austrian pacifist, became the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Born in 1843, Suttner was in many ways ahead of her time as the figurehead of a world-wide peace movement. She relentlessly fought nationalist fanaticism, aggressive militarism, anti-Semitism and recognized the dangers of hate breeding. As a writer and lecturer, she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for her most famous novel “Lay Down your Arms.”

Conrad Grebel University College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Trevor Bechtel to the role of Dean, effective July 1, 2014. He succeeds Jim Pankratz who has served as Dean for 9 years and will be retiring in June.
Timothy Corlis has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Music at Conrad Grebel University College, beginning August 1, 2014. He will focus his teaching on Music Theory, stepping in after Professor Carol Ann Weaver retires in June, having taught at Grebel for 29 years. Conrad Grebel is home to the Music Department at the University of Waterloo.
