Peace Speeches Tackle Contemporary Concerns


WATERLOO, ON -- The Peace and Conflict Studies department and the Centre for the Study of Religion and Peace at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo extend an open invitation to Look Behind You! This multimedia performance details how a father and son have negotiated the personal and political landscapes of Northern Ireland through photograph and song.
Peace Camp is a place to share stories and learn from one another. It is a place where guest speakers are invited to share their stories of peace and peacebuilding. It is a place where campers from various cultural backgrounds, faiths, and orientations have an opportunity to learn from and share their stories with each other.
Conrad Grebel University College will confer its first honorary doctorate to John Paul Lederach at its Convocation ceremony on April 13, 2014.
Cn 1916, when Berlin, Ontario changed its name to Kitchener, Mennonite diarist Susannah Cressman wrote, “Such is the wisdom of our…town fathers who are making [military contract] money out of it.” That same year preacher U. K. Weber persuaded his congregation to adopt the name “First Mennonite Church” to avoid naming the church after “warlord” Kitchener. In 1918, Mennonite conscientious objector Joseph Smith worried that he would be court-martialed.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, at 11:00 AM, the Grebel Gamelan will be playing at Rockway Mennonite Church, 32 Weber Street West in Kitchener. This is a Balinese gamelan directed by UW/Grebel Ethnomusicology professor Maisie Sum and professional Balinese gamelan player Dewa Made Suparta, with Grebel players.
WATERLOO, ON -- Conrad Grebel University College is pleased to announce that thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Waterloo Region's Community Environmental Fund, the first electric vehicle charging station on the University of Waterloo campus is up and running! Available to the public, the aim of this project is to increase consumer use of electric vehicles.
