Undergrad students earn global leadership fellowships
Three Waterloo Engineering students have earned a national fellowship that supports global leadership and entrepreneurship.
Mechatronics Engineering student Tobias Grether-Murray, Electrical Engineering student Jordan Leis and Systems Design Engineering student Taira Mehta have been named 2026 Cansbridge Fellows, a competitive program that provides hands-on international experience through a self-organized internship in Asia. Grether-Murray and Leis are scheduled for winter 2027 placements, and Mehta for summer 2027.
Alum founders earn backing for AI platform for retail chains
Two retail and technology veterans with roots at Waterloo Engineering are using the lessons they learned to help retailers ensure corporate plans are efficiently executed at the store level.

A homegrown success story written by an alumnus of Waterloo Engineering marked a major milestone – cumulative revenue topping $1 billion – by unveiling a public sculpture yesterday at its headquarters in the David Johnston Research and Technology Park on the north campus.
TextNow was launched 2009 as a co-op placement by student Derek Ting (BASc ’10) to help pay his bills while he was earning his undergraduate degree in computer engineering at Waterloo.
