FIRST Robotics Competition

The highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST. High-school students team up with the world’s best technology companies to build the most impressive robots you’ve ever seen. Built from scratch in only 6 weeks, these 5 foot tall, 140 pound robots compete in high intensity robo-sports. With bragging rights at stake for schools and the companies that support them, robotics takes on a pro-sports experience. Watch the best of the best in robotics come out to play.

Engineering science quest winter programs

Event description: Come out and have some fun! Our Winter Camp is available for youth currently in grades 1-2 and 3-4 at the Waterloo campus! These day programs will run 9:00AM to 4:00PM on January 3rd and 4th, 2019. Activities will cover a range of science, engineering and technology concepts, and will be different each day.

Students and alumni are invited to participate in an exclusive Office Hour with engineering alumni Jim Vounassis (BASc '94), Chief Operating Officer at Bombardier Transportation!

During this Office Hour, Jim Vounassis will talk about his career and lessons learned, while sharing career advice and insights into the future of engineering, particularly in the transportation sector. Join fellow alumni and students for this virtual office hour to get advice on your career, ask questions, and get to know the COO of Bombardier Transportation. Please bring your questions!

We are very excited to have Marc Morin as our guest speaker for the CryptoWorks 21 Distinguished lecture series (3).  Marc will share with the audience his tremendous experience as a serial entrepreneur and seed investor in the local tech companies.  

This evening lecture is to complement the ongoing and more curriculum-based IP Management lunch-and-learn lecture series that organized and hosted by CryptoWorks 21.

MATHEMATICAL frontiers webinar: why machine learning works

The Office of Research and Artificial Intelligence Institute are hosting a viewing of a webinar from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. In this webinar presentation, professors Aarti Singh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Dave Donoho, Stanford University, will discuss the mathematics behind machine learning and how they enable predictive analyses. There will be a Q&A session following the presentation.

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

An event marking the twenty-ninth anniversary of the École Polytechnique de Montréal tragedy honouring the women who lost their lives and commemorating the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Students, faculty, staff and community leaders will come together to reflect and commemorate the 14 young women whose lives were taken, and to continue the pursuit of justice, equity and opportunity for all.

FIRST Lego League Competition

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8**) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.
