A device that harvests ambient emissions from smartphones and converts them into power to run smart contact lenses has earned a team of Waterloo Engineering students a third-place finish and a $4,500 US prize in an international design competition.

Fifty student teams vied for honours at the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Symposium in Puerto Rico after being challenged to design and build power-harvesting devices capable of turning radio-frequency emissions into useful DC power.

Fast Feedback Day – An open forum where teams present their ideas for fast feedback from a panel of experts. At this stage, teams will learn whether they are ready to take their idea to the next stage of mentoring and/or to apply to incubators.

Reduce your stress drop-in sessions

These drop-in sessions are designed to help you reduce stress and learn ways to find balance and well-being. Each week, a facilitator will introduce you to stress management practices to help you find relief from stress. These practices will be something you can learn to do yourself to prevent and reduce the negative impact of stress. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a note pad and pen.

CBB Panel Discussion: Engaging Hospitals in Research Projects

The panel discussion will be focused on guiding UW researchers on how to engage with hospitals and how to succeed with clinical/academic partnerships. Specifically, the discussion will be centered on an overview of best practices when engaging hospitals, what clinicians are looking for in terms of collaboration, and how get the ball rolling. Light refreshments will be served.
