Val Chibisov, an electrical and computer engineering student, has been selected as one of just five Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Product Fellows out of 2500 applicants for the program from 200 universities across the U.S and Canada. Chibisov is the only student from a Canadian university to be chosen.

Venture capitalist, Waterloo Engineering graduate and former Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya returned to the University of Waterloo on May 9 to announce a new Social Capital Fellows program that will pair top Waterloo engineering students with innovative startups in Silicon Valley.   

Faizul Mohee, a civil engineering doctoral candidate, has been honoured with the inaugural Ontario Society of Professional Engineers President’s Award in the Young Professional category. The award recognizes an exceptional Ontario Engineer who has served as an advocate for the engineering community through various roles during academic studies and following graduation.

Peter Thompson has been selected as the winner of the 2014 CSCE Hydrotechnical Engineering Award for the best masters’ thesis at a Canadian University related to water resource engineering and water management.  The award, sponsored by Golder Associates Ltd., is in recognition of Thompson's civil engineering thesis work entitled: Event Based Characterization of Hydrologic Change in Urbanizing Southern On

A team of University of Waterloo student researchers has been selected as one of 16 North American teams in the EcoCAR 3 Advanced Vehicle Technologies Competition launched April 24 by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors.

Mahsa Shayan, a civil engineering doctoral candidate, was presented with the Katherine Hadley Memorial Scholarship by the Real Property Institute of Canada on April 16 at the Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop in Ottawa. The scholarship in environmental studies is given to a university graduate-level student undertaking research in environmental issues related to contaminated sites.

Today the approximately 750 employee company is one of the leaders in the burgeoning e-learning market.  The company also has the distinction of having received the largest investment ever for a Canadian software company.
