Nanotechnology engineering student Jaewon Oh was part of breakthrough research that could lead to advances in miniaturized optical systems.

During an eight-month co-op position with the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the third-year Waterloo Engineering student worked as part of the team that created the first high-end optical lens on the nanoscale level that has widespread applications in laser-based microscopy, imaging, and spectroscopy.

Chemical engineering professor Costas Tzoganakis has been elected as a Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers for outstanding contributions in the field of plastics engineering, science and technology. Three companies launched by Waterloo Engineering students were the winners of the California Pitch Alumni Event held April 14 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.

Lumotune, Varden Labs and Voltera each won $5,000 at the event attended by hundreds of University of Waterloo alumni, students, and guests to provide insight into how Waterloo brings innovative and world-changing ideas to the global marketplace.
