The Op. 39 quintet by Prokofiev is based on his ballet, Trapeze, which was written during his time in Paris. The strange, virtuosic, and sometimes grotesque music perfectly represents circus performers and carnival sights.
Centred around the Prokofiev, our quirky program explores light and dark music by these four swell composers.
The Goodchild Grady Duo will present an all Canadian program of works for clarinet/bass clarinet and percussion. The concert will feature Toronto based composer Shelley Marwood, Saskatoon composer Kendra Harder, as well as other contemporary composers.
Grebel is co-hosting the Waterloo film premiere of The Eagle and the Condor - From Standing Rock with Love with the Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre at St. Paul's University College.
The 2018 Benjamin Eby Lecture features Professor Alicia Batten, presenting "Memory, Identity, and the Sermon on the Mount: The Case of André Trocmé."
This exhibition features the work of artist and cultural translator Soheila Esfahani. As an Iranian Canadian, Soheila has lived in what she calls a “negotiated third space” and her artwork emerges from her reflections on this experience.
This concert will feature an eclectic mix of music by Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and Monk. Performers Michael Wood on vibes/percussion, Steve Clark on bass, and Rob LaRose on percussion have a wealth of experience between them.
At this public event, Jane Ramseyer Miller, Artistic Director of One Voice Mixed Chorus, Minnesota’s GLBTA chorus and Artistic Director for GALA Choruses, will lead us in singing and reflection. She will inspire us to give thanks for the gift of water that is fundamental for all of life, and will challenge us to commit to the fair and just care of water for all people. Opening and welcome by Blue Sky Singers, a group of First Nations singers.
Harpist Lori Gemmell and tenor James McLean will perform a selection of classical music. This concert features French songs by Debussy, Faure and Tournier, British Folk songs by Benjamin Britten, and Glen Buhr's setting of Tolkien's epic Tale of Tinuviel.
