New Students Off-Campus Associates Application Form

All students new to Grebel must fill in this (longer) Associate application form. After the form has been received, you will be contacted by Grebel Student Services. We may invite you to an interview/conversation as part of the application process. In order to give time for your Associate application interview, we strongly recommend you submit your application as early as possible, preferably prior to the start of term.

Form Length: 8 Pages

Important: This is not an application for academic admission. Acceptance to the Conrad Grebel Associate program is contingent upon being admitted to an academic program of the University of Waterloo*.

A photo is required with submission. This photo may be used in the Grebel Facesbook and in Grebel promotional material.

*Some WLU students will be considered based on a separate criteria.

This application requires you to respond to 9 short answer questions of approximately 200 words each. As this document cannot be saved within the application, please prepare your answer in a separate document then cut and paste it into the correct field when prompted. Below are the 9 questions.

  1. Describe your involvement and your interests that influenced your high school experience (academics, sports, music, travel, art, drama, writing, clubs, church involvement, etc.)
  2. If any, describe your year(s) between high school and university.
  3. Why have you chosen to come to the University of Waterloo and why have you chosen your program of study?
  4. Describe yourself ─ your personality, qualities, characteristics, etc.
  5. What current issues concern you?
  6. What are your future goals and interests?
  7. Conrad Grebel University College encourages a high degree of involvement from its Associates. Grebel has intramural teams, clubs,  choirs, student leadership positions, an active chapel program, and much more. Where could you see yourself getting involved?
  8. Whenever elective space permits, Associates are encouraged to take one or two courses taught at the College. Grebel offers courses in Religious Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Music, Sociology, Philosophy, History, English, and Arts. Please indicate which area you are most interested in.
  9. Conrad Grebel University College is a Mennonite educational institution which emphasizes Christian values. It promotes emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth. It strives for integration of reason and imagination, faith and action, integrity and personal commitment. Elaborate on why you would want to participate in such a community.
