The Body of Christ Has Many Members

Faculty and students in the Master of Theological Studies (MTS) program at Conrad Grebel University College have found that conversations between those with different approaches to Christianity are a valuable learning experience. Class discussions about the Bible, Christian theology, ministry, and church history are all enriched due to diverse approaches to Christianity from both students and professors.

Community and hospitality are important values at Grebel, especially in the residence. During the work day, these value are fostered by the Student Services team, but during non-business hours, the Don team and Campus Hosts take over. The Campus Hosts  support residents at Grebel by providing a safe space to talk, administering basic first aid, locking up the building, and letting students into their rooms when they lock themselves out.

Every Sunday night for an hour, students from the Conrad Grebel community come together for a hymn sing to create and learn music together. Because of the pandemic, students gather outside with masks, but they bring the same excitement and love of music. With the upcoming release of the new Mennonite Hymnal, Voices Together, there is little doubt that Grebel students will engage with the new music as they have with the old.

Graduate students in the Masters of Theological Studies (MTS) program at Conrad Grebel University College usually learn together in small classes to learn the intricacies of the Bible, Christian theology, church history and practicing ministry. The pandemic this year has turned the program’s teaching model on its head, as professors have adapted and in some cases entirely reconstructed their courses for the ease of learning and connecting virtually. Because of the online platform, the courses are reaching more students in many locations. From Niagara-on-the-Lake to Manitoba, students are excited to learn and engage with each other in online discussions.

Conrad Grebel University College has implemented many health and safety measures to ensure the wellness of everyone in the building during the current COVID-19 pandemic. One innovative measure is participation in a SARS CoV2 screening pilot project by EpiTOme Genetics – a lab that provides organizations with access to molecular techniques. EpiTOme, running an advanced Seegene Inc. PCR platform, is providing Grebel with regular SARS CoV2 screening for students and front-line staff.  The goal of the pilot project is toprove that organizations benefit from access to reliable molecular information in guiding their operations.

Today, Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) announced findings of ‘ministerial sexual misconduct’ and ‘ministerial misconduct’ against John D. Rempel, following an investigation by MCEC. Mr. Rempel is a former employee of the College who served as Chaplain, residence director, and Adjunct Professor at Grebel from 1973 until 1989.
