The proliferation of AI has placed increased focus on the thorny topic of ethics: to what extent are engineers responsible for - and to what extent can they encode - the ethical behavior of the AI applications they design?
The Problem Lab invites you to watch the Quantum Valley Investments® Problem Pitch Competition.
Teams have each chosen an important industry problem, and will now pitch their research to a panel of judges for a chance to win up to $30k in grant funding. The 5-minute pitches will demonstrate each competitor’s knowledge of their problem’s history, scope, and impact.
The tradition continues on July 12, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to celebrate Engineering Day with our incredible community of students, alumni, professors and staff. This year's activities will include a colour throw (wear a white t-shirt!), BBQ featuring the famous 'Boggan Burgers, free treats and refreshments including purple Koolaid as well as soft-serve ice cream and popcorn, a photo booth, The Tool and The Tool Bearers, and so much more!

Elora Quarry is a swimming spot only half an hour from Waterloo! Buy a ticket for a day of fun on the beach and in the water. Your ticket includes transportation from the University of Waterloo to Elora Quarry and back, as well as admission to the park! All proceeds from this event go towards the It Takes a Village campaign, which supports social enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Because of massive urban expansion in China during the past three decades, China is confronted with a major challenge on how to wisely manage water within a complex urban system. An integrated water systems approach will be presented for tackling tough urbanization problems, such as waterlogging, black and odorous water, and ecosystem degradation within a large urban region.

UWAFT Talks is an industry and networking event joined by industry leader, FleetCarma (a division of GeoTab), for a discussion on the emerging areas of automotive technology and sustainability, the diverse automotive ecosystem that exists here in Waterloo, and opportunities for local students to gain job and volunteer experience in this exciting and innovative industry!

As part of the Water Institute's WaterTalks lecture series, Dr. Edson Wendland, a Professor and Dean of the Engineering School of São Carlos, will present “Hydrology of the 2014 São Paulo, Brazil Water Crisis”.
