Alison Scott, a chemical engineering MASc candidate and engineering outreach volunteer, has been awarded the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation's Vale Master's Scholarship. Electrical and Computer Engineering Researchers Chitral Angammana and Shesha Jayaram have been honoured with the IEEE James R. Melcher Prize Paper Award 2013, for the technical excellence displayed in their work entitled Investigation of the Optimum Electric Field for a Stable Electrospinning Process.

Lin Tan and Wojciech Golab of electrical and computer engineering have been honoured with Google Research Awards. Tan's software engineering project and Golab's systems project were two of the 115 projects to be funded out of the 691 proposals received from researchers working in 46 countries. Their awards each include tuition for a graduate student and the  the opportunity to work directly with Google researchers and engineers. This is the second time Tan has won a Google award -- she also received one in 2010.


The new Norman Esch Entrepreneurship Awards for Capstone Design will be awarded this year to upper year engineering projects. 

Fifteen outstanding design projects, shortlisted from all engineering departments during the 2014 Capstone Design Symposia, will be chosen to compete for funding, based on the degree of project innovation and the merit of their business model. The finalists will be announced on March 28.

Nicole McLellan, who recently graduated with an MASc in civil engineering, captured second place in the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Academic Achievement competition for best master’s thesis. The annual award acknowledges water-related theses at the master's and doctoral levels from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
