Conrad Grebel University College’s Peace and Conflict Studies program (PACS) at the University of Waterloo was the first peace studies program in Canada, and has remained a leader in peace education for 40 years. With PACS’ innovative approach to learning, students can choose arts-based assignment options in many courses.

Celebrate PACS 40th anniversary with us by experiencing some of the most compelling arts-based assignments completed by students in the program. This artwork highlights the diverse, innovative, and transformational nature of the PACS program and PACS students.

The orchestra@uwaterloo produces many such magical moments. Directed by Daniel Warren, students, staff, faculty and alumni from all faculties join together to play beautiful symphonic music.

This concert will feature the Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Dvorak's Symphony No. 6 in D Major.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe described chamber music (specifically, string quartet music) as "four rational people conversing". This conversational pattern–which refers to the way one instrument introduces a melody or motif and then other instruments subsequently "respond" with a similar motif–has been a thread woven through the history of chamber music composition from the end of the 18th century to the present.

Directed by Mark Vuorinen, this 25 voice choir will perform Benjamin Britten’s quirky cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb, set to the delightfully peculiar poetry of Christopher Smart. Organist Jan Overduin joins the choir in this program at Knox Presbyterian Church, Waterloo.  Music by Jan Sandström, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Tim Corlis, Franz Biebl and others completes the program.  Tickets are available at the door.

St. Lucia’s Day, Yi Ping, Diwali, Obon, Hanukkah, Advent and Christmas -- festivals of light.  Around the world, groups have fashioned holidays, festivals, and rituals around it. With these rituals come beautiful practices. The UW Choir will explore music from India, Japan, Thailand, and Sweden as well as Canadian traditional music for Advent and Christmas.  The UW Choir is directed by Dr. Gerard Yun.

The University of Waterloo Balinese Gamelan Ensemble will perform a selection of traditional and modern compositions.  First started in 2013, the ensemble led by artist-in-residence Dewa Suparta and Dr. Maisie Sum is expanding its repertoire and level every term.  

Grebel's Peace Society is pleased to present the 2017 Make-A-Difference Market. Get in the festive spirit with Christmas shopping, food, and music. The market supports local and fair-trade vendors in the community, while raising money for a great cause. 

This year we are supporting Direct Relief. Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization that provides health support for high-risk populations, and those impacted by emergencies.
