Giving Back on Giving Tuesday

John and Wendy Marshall
As a graduate from Environment Studies, John W Marshall (BES 1985) learned about the importance of environmental issues as a student.  In his professional career with the Government of Ontario, he worked in Economic Development and most recently in the Ministry of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation.

“This work and my background in Urban Planning, made me aware of the need to deploy innovative technologies that enable people to make better transportation choices that support climate change. Adding more EV charging stations is critical to the adoption of clean technologies by staff and students at Grebel,” says John.

As an alum of Conrad Grebel John, and his wife Wendy, have been supportive as donors. “Helping to encourage other Grebelites to support this Green Fund initiative is something we feel will be important as society meets its climate change objectives and we provide a modern and technology enabled campus for everyone at Grebel.”

The Marshalls are providing matching funds of $10,000 - $5,000 per EV charging station x 2.

Join other Grebelites in this challenge.  When we reach $5,000 your donations will be matched to fund a charging station.

  • Challenge 1 $5,000 matched by the Marshall’s $5,000 for first EV Charging station
  • Challenge 2 $5,000 matched by the Marshall’s $5,000 for second EV Charging station

Details for on-line donations will be posted on Giving Tuesday, November 29!

Grebel’s Green Fund will be used for capital expenses that will reduce the College’s carbon footprint.  Working with the Green Team at Grebel the administration will prioritize projects that will encourage students and employees to explore ‘greener’ transportation to campus. Adding more EV charging stations in our parking lot is critical. Other capital projects include better roof insulation, a new HVAC system in the academic wing and exploring other upgrades to reduce the use of natural gas and GHG emission.

Director of Operations, Paul Penner, chairs the Grebel Green team. “We really need to add more stations because the use of EVs is only going to increase,” he says. “Two stations will provide hook-ups for 4 vehicles and this will go a long way to reduce our carbon footprint.”
