Balinese Gamelan Ensemble Concert

Balinese Gamelan and two dancers

Directed by Dr. Maisie Sum and featuring Grebel Artist-in-Residence I Dewa Made Suparta, the UW Balinese Gamelan and the Grebel Community Gamelan will perform a mix of contemporary pieces and traditional classics.  Come find out why people who love music are fascinated by the gamelan.

Free admission, and a chance to try the gamelan yourself after the concert.

The UWaterloo Jazz Ensemble will perform a mix of jazz standards from Gordon Goodwin, Count Basie, Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington, and more.  Directed by well know percussionist Michael Wood, the ensemble consists of 20 UW jazz aficionados.

Selections include Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (The Unfinished); Smetana’s The Moldau; Brahms’ "Academic Festival Overture"; Saint Saëns’ "Bacchanale" from Samson and Delilah;  Massenet’s "Meditation" from Thaïs (violin soloist Lila Huang); Mahler’s Adagietto, from Symphony No. 5.
