Special Presentation: Rock This Town *SOLD OUT*

Rock This Town brings to life the exciting history of rock music concerts in KW from the 1960s and 1970s. An insider’s look into the gritty reality of building the local live music scene. This 70-minute documentary features interviews with music business pros plus performances by today’s musicians. Rock stars come and go but live music is here to stay!

Join us for an online information session specifically for guidance counsellors/advisors who will be supporting students through the Engineering and/or Mathematics undergraduate application process at the University of Waterloo. We will discuss admission processes and changes this year as well as highlight some important deadlines for your students.

The importance of liquid fuels in transportation is well established, yet, there are presently no viable options for their cost-effective production from renewable feedstocks.  During the past 15 years we have been developing in my lab a system for the conversion of gas mixtures of hydrogen (or CO) and CO2 to oils or alkanes. The two-stage system comprises anaerobic fixation of CO2 and conversion of the CO2 fixation product (for example, acetate) to lipids, from which biodiesel can be produced. In another application, the CO2 fixation product is converted to alkanes. Our work includes both the engineering of the microbes and development of a process to achieve gas to liquid conversion in prototype systems. These systems are scalable, make no use of land (beyond what is needed for generating renewable electricity for hydrogen production), do not compete with food and are cost competitive based on high level cost analysis. I will present the essential features of this process in my talk; full details can be found in the 5 papers cited.

Robotics for Society

Women in AI & Robotics and the RoboHub at the University of Waterloo have co-organized a fantastic networking and educational opportunity for the Robotics community.

This event brings together students, researchers, and industry professionals in the field of robotics to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Participants will engage in discussions, share research findings, and explore cutting-edge developments in robotics technology.

Our aim is to foster cross-sector networking, allowing students to learn from leading researchers and industry experts. The event will feature presentations by researchers and industry professionals, followed by a panel discussion on the transformative potential of robotics to benefit society and create a technologically advanced and sustainable future. More details about the speakers will be announced soon.

During the event, all participants can connect over lunch.

We'll also feature student spotlight talks.

While Women in AI & Robotics' focus is on increasing women-identifying representation, the event is open and free to attend for everyone, regardless of gender.

This event is supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ottawa.

TronCon 2024

It's a full day of discovery at TronCon 2024! TronCon will coincide with the Mechatronics Capstone Design Symposium to give alumni an opportunity to view the newest batch of Capstone design projects (FYDPs) by fourth year mechatronic students, get involved in judging the capstone design projects, and reconnect with the Tron community at the event and at the dinner that follows.

Thursday, March 28, 2024 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Esch Pitch Competition

Watch as 12 outstanding Capstone teams compete for over $100k in prizes. These teams were shortlisted from over 50 entries representing most programs in the Faculty of Engineering. The Esch Awards support creative and entrepreneurial students in the pursuit of research and development and its commercialization for the benefit of Canada.
