The University of Waterloo broke ground today on an innovative engineering building that will feature facilities designed to expand student-driven innovation and advanced research labs to develop emerging technologies that will help to boost Canada’s global competitiveness.

Researchers at National Taiwan University have recognized the University of Waterloo as an impressive force among Canada’s engineering institutions. Waterloo Engineering ranked second in Canada in the 2015 Taiwan Ranking’s engineering field, and first for Chemical Engineering. The University of Waterloo also ranked in Canada’s top five for the Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering subjects.
WE Go.DEsign is a two day Engineering Design and Research Competition for women in grade 10 and 11 presented by the Goethe-Institut. The Grand Prize will be a language, engineering and culture trip to Germany during Summer 2016! There are two elements to the competition, a Research Symposium and a Design Challenge. Each element will be judged by Goethe Institut and University of Waterloo faculty and staff, with prizes awarded in each element.

Move over pokey Google self-driving cars, here comes a pack of robot cars racing around an outdoor track in a bid to see which one is the fastest. The race is the annual International Autonomous Robot Racing Competition (IARRC), hosted by the University of Waterloo.
This year's event will take place on a large track in the parking lot of Engineering 5. All races are open to the public and begin at 11 a.m. In case of rain, the main competition will be held in the Sedra Student Design Centre (Engineering 5) on Sunday, July 19.

Making shared accommodation spaces more private and secure is the goal behind winning Capstone Design project, Boogaloo Bunks. The team, comprised of students from mechanical, mechatronics and systems design engineering, designed a solution that transforms hostel beds into private and secure personal pods.
Two graduate students will represent the Faculty of Engineering on April 2, 2015 at the University of Waterloo's 3rd annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Competitors have 1 static slide and 3 minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research to a non-specialist audience.
