Every year, on Sept. 21, the world celebrates the International Day of Peace. Inspired by this initiative, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement and Conrad Grebel University College invite you to peace events throughout Sept. 16 to 22, or to plan an event to mark the occasion your way, in your community.

Four chamber groups will play a delightful selection of classical music.  Included this term are pieces by Mozart and Peterson.  Free admission, reception to follow.

A moving concert of vocal and instrumental music inspired by magical tales and legends.  The music ranges from the enchanting "Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty" ballets by Tchaikovsky to arias from Mozart's "Magic Flute" and Massenet's "Cinderella", as well as orchestral music from Gounod's "Faust" and the great Can-Can from "Orpheus in the Underworld".

The human voice is an incredible instrument, not only capable of carrying text, but also showcasing many different sounds to convey emotion or create atmosphere. Voicescapes will explore some of these capabilities, featuring music by composers such as Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Stephen Hatfield, Morten Lauridsen, and Sarah Hopkins. 

The Balinese Gamelan is meant to be heard outdoors, so please join us at Waterloo Town Square for a terrific evening concert.  Free admission.  This ensemble is directed by I Dewa Made Suparta, a noted Gamelan composer, and Dr. Maisie Sum.  Stay after the concert to try out an instrument or two.

Join us for a reception celebrating the new Grebel Gallery exhibit, New Fraktur, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 7:30pm. Register here. Meg Harder’s recent work considers the social history of fraktur, an imaginative, densely detailed, and symbolic illuminated folk art practiced by early Mennonite settlers in the region.

In Spring term we offer the Balinese Gamelan, Instrumental Chamber groups, orchestra@uwaterloo, and the University Choir.
The orchestra needs 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, & 2 bassoons
4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, and a tuba
Timpani, percussion, harp, and strings.

The 2019 Benjamin Eby Lecture will be presented by Mark Vuorinen. 

Witnessing Passion: Musical depiction of minor characters in Passion music by Bach, Ešenvalds, MacMillan and Pärt

Meg Harder is an interdisciplinary artist working and living in the Grand River Watershed. Harder graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the University of Waterloo, which included a six month exchange at Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem. She studied under Paula Wilson at Haystack Mountain school of crafts in 2018. She was the 2015 Eastern Comma Artist in Residence at Rare Charitable Research Reserve and at Vermont Studio Centre in 2018. She has exhibited at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Contemporary Art Forum of Kitchener and Area, and The Museum, Kitchener.

“Pop-up” Peace Museum – Presented by the students of PACS 203/HIST 232 (A History of Peace Movements), the Pop-up Peace Museum features 14 exhibits highlighting a wide range of peace and justice movements from the 20th and 21st centuries. Come and visit on Monday, March 25 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm in Room #2202 at Conrad Grebel University College (directly across from Grebel’s front reception desk).
