Join us for a three choir extravaganza at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
The Music Department at Grebel has commissioned two alumni composers to celebrate Grebel's 60th Anniversary. The new pieces will be premiered on November 25th at a joint choral concert featuring the Conrad Grebel Chapel Choir, the UW Chamber Choir and the University Choir.
Alumna Julia Jacklein’s A Song in Celebration sets poetry by the 19th century poet Bjørnstjerne M. Bjørnson and opens with the words “Song brings us light with the power of lending Glory to brighten the work that we find.” It is a joyful, upbeat setting.
Candace Bustard, a graduate of the Music program who is now pursuing doctoral studies in composition at the University of Toronto, composed Come to Community for the occasion. With a commissioned text by Toronto poet Veronika Mikolajewski, Come to Community highlights the importance of coming together as a community in our increasingly individualistic society.
Each choir will perform selections of music on their own, and will come together to perform Tim Corlis’ Psalm 150, commissioned for the College’s 50th Anniversary in 2013.
